This is what NOT to do when you're wearing a helmet mounted camera. Wait for it...wait for it...

This was a pretty decent little run. A lot of the trail today was like this. Soft, but not too muddy. It's a little slow (and my handling skills are poop right now), but at least it's time in the dirt!

Today was a lot of fun. Most of the riding in the trails was good, though I had to hike a few times through snow that was too deep to ride though. It was cool to be out on my new ride with decently warm temps and off the road. In the end I got about 2 hours in the dirt, and an hour back on the road. Great day all in all!

  1. HaHaHa! That was awesome. Man, the trees look tight or does the camera make them look closer together?

  2. Yeah I had no idea it was gonna look that cool! I was PISSED because I thought I had demolished my new cam, but I guess they make these things durable so idiots like me can smash into branches with them:).
The trees really are that tight. What Long Island doesn't have in long climbs and super technical sections, it makes up for in super tight and twisty singletrack. All the trails around here for the most part are super tight and really twisty. Other sections of the trails I rode today are rocky and rooty-typical east coast stuff. A lot of people rag on Long Island for not having good mountain bike trials, but if you know where to look you can have some great rides.
When I was in Wales I rode at one of their famous trail centers. It's pretty techy with lots of climbing and descending. I'd say the only difference between there and here (with the exception of sustained climbs) is that there's just MORE trail there. Our longest trail system is only about 20 miles.
